Following Championship Seasons, Andrews Takes Helm of FSCJ Men’s Basketball
Jacksonville, FL – Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) Director of Athletics Jerry Thor announced the promotion of Toriano Andrews as the interim head coach of the men's basketball program on Monday, September 22nd.
Andrews, who served as the program's top assistant coach for the past two seasons, steps into the role following a historic run of success for FSCJ basketball. During his tenure as assistant coach, the team compiled 57 wins, captured back-to-back FCSAA/Region 8 titles, and made two consecutive appearances at the NJCAA National Tournament in Danville, Illinois.
"Coach Andrews has played a critical role in the recent success of our program," said Director of Athletics Jerry Thor. "His ability to connect with players, develop talent, and build a winning culture makes him the right leader to continue our momentum."
Under Andrews' guidance, FSCJ has produced six All-FCSAA players, including two Players of the Year—Tarence Guinyard and Aiden Fletcher—and FCSAA All-Tournament players, with both Guinyard and Alex McCray earning Most Outstanding Player honors. Both Guinyard and Fletcher also received NJCAA All-American recognition.
"I'm incredibly honored and excited to lead this program," said Coach Andrews. "Our student-athletes have shown tremendous dedication, and I look forward to continuing to build our championship culture both on and off the court."
Andrews brings a wealth of international coaching experience to the position. He previously served as head coach at Foshan Nanhai University in Guangdong, China (2018–19), and as head skills development coach for the Shanxi XingRui Flames of the WCBA, where he led performance training and holistic player development.
He also held roles as head coach and skills development coach for Kaiyang Pro Basketball Club, and as a consultant for the CBA's Northeast Jilin Tigers, where he specialized in foreign player development and integration. Before transitioning to coaching, Andrews played professional basketball from 1998 to 2010, with stints in Turkey, Spain, and Southeast Asia.
A Virginia Beach, Virginia native, Andrews currently resides in Middleburg, Florida, with his wife Kasiah and their four children: Amari, Toriano Jr., Jordun, and Skylor.
