Timeout for Tails – FSCJ Volleyball Spreads Love at Jax Humane Society
Last week, the FSCJ volleyball team stepped off the court and into the community, volunteering for two mornings 7:30am-10:00am at the Jacksonville Humane Society. The players helped walk dogs, assisted during playtime groups, and made sure every pup got plenty of treats, love, and attention.
For the Manta Rays, this was more than just a team service project—it's a tradition. The program has partnered with JHS for the past three years, building a meaningful relationship based on compassion, support, and giving back to the Jacksonville area.
"Serving our community is part of who we are," said Head Coach Chelsea Hinck. "We want to be great teammates on the court, but we also want to be great people in our community. Taking time to support organizations like JHS reminds us how much of an impact small acts of kindness can have."
The team spent both mornings walking dogs around the facility, taking them out to play, and created intentional one-on-one time with the animals who just needed some affection. Simple acts—like a long walk or a few minutes of play—go a long way toward keeping the animals healthy, happy, and socialized until they find a forever home.
Beyond the impact on the animals, these service days consistently serve as an opportunity for the team to grow together. Moments of shared laughter, compassion, and gratitude help reinforce the bigger purpose of the program—representing FSCJ with integrity and using their platform to uplift others.
The partnership with JHS will continue throughout the season, and the Manta Rays remain committed to supporting the local community any chance they get.
