Manta Rays Light Up the Community This Thanksgiving
This Thanksgiving season, Florida State College at Jacksonville Volleyball stepped off the court and into the community to lend a helping hand at The Salvation Army's annual "Can U Care" event in Jacksonville.
Hosted at the Tower Center of Hope (900 West Adams Street), the "Can U Care" initiative brings volunteers together to prepare and distribute Thanksgiving food boxes for local families in need. Each year, The Salvation Army partners with area businesses, public schools, and volunteers to ensure that low-income households can enjoy a hearty holiday meal in Jacksonville's community.
The Manta Rays joined in sorting and packing nonperishable items, canned goods, stuffing, boxed potatoes, vegetables, and dessert mixes (over 2,000 items), while helping build 500 family boxes to fill for send out next week in preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The team worked together through the day's shift, turning their teamwork and energy into service — one box and one smile at a time.
Coach Hinck added, "Our players shine both on and off the court. Events like 'Can U Care' give them the chance to give back and make a tangible difference in the community. It's important to remember that teamwork goes beyond the game. We are proud to serve and support our Jacksonville community during the Thanksgiving holidays."
Those interested in volunteering can find future "Can U Care" shift opportunities and sign-up details through The Salvation Army's website or Idealist.org.
This season, FSCJ Volleyball reminds everyone that a small act of care can make a big difference — on and off the court.
