Newman displayed impressive plate discipline Friday night, drawing three walks and helping lead the FSCJ Manta Rays to a 12–2 win over the Daytona State Falcons.
FSCJ broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Disbrow grounded out to bring home the game's first run. The Manta Rays then pulled away in the ninth, adding four more runs to stretch the lead to 12–2. Morales delivered an RBI single, Daneault added an RBI double, Martineau contributed with a sacrifice fly, and Newman capped the inning with a solo home run to right field.
Glover got the start on the mound for FSCJ and was dominant, allowing just two hits over four shutout innings while striking out seven and issuing no walks. He also threw an immaculate inning in the first, striking out the side on nine pitches. Borton started for Daytona State, giving up one hit over three scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and two walks. Havens, Musgrove, and Hansen combined in relief for the Manta Rays to hold the Falcons in check.
FSCJ recorded 11 hits in the victory. Daneault led the offense with three hits in five at-bats from the leadoff spot. McFarlin and Martineau each drove in two runs, while Newman reached base three times via walk. As a team, the Manta Rays showed patience at the plate, earning eight total walks. Defensively, FSCJ played a clean game without committing an error, and Disbrow led the team with 15 fielding chances.
FSCJ Manta Rays Walk It Off Against Daytona State, 10–9
It was a back-and-forth battle Saturday at FSCJ North Campus, but the Manta Rays came out on top with a 10–9 walk-off win over the Daytona State Falcons. With the score tied at nine in the bottom of the ninth, Daneault lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home the winning run and seal the victory.
Daytona State struck first in the opening inning, taking advantage of an FSCJ error to score. The Manta Rays answered immediately in the bottom half, capitalizing on a Falcon miscue to plate two runs before MacGillivray added an RBI groundout to make it 3–1. Daytona State evened the score in the third on a two-run homer to right field on an 0-2 count.
The Falcons regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI walk, but FSCJ responded in the bottom of the inning. Masto, MacGillivray, and Prudencio each drew bases-loaded walks to push the Manta Rays back in front. Daytona State surged ahead again in the eighth, erupting for five runs, highlighted by a three-run double after a lengthy eight-pitch at-bat. FSCJ tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a fielder's choice by Gonzalez, setting the stage for the dramatic finish.
Carson started for FSCJ, allowing three runs (two earned) over 2.2 innings. Caraynoff, Newman, Astacio Jr., Q Wilfong, and Wortham combined in relief to hold the Falcons in check late.
Masto drove in three runs to lead FSCJ, while Martineau collected two hits. The Manta Rays showed discipline at the plate with 13 walks, including three each from Newman and Daneault. Daneault and Martineau each swiped multiple bases as FSCJ totaled four steals.
